Eye Chart.

Final Piece.

Concept - a day in the life of David Beckham. Done in the style of a flick book, you see him through the eyes of the paparazzi. The events are quite superficial. Towards the end of the book the images get more detailed as he goes into his home.

Eye Chart Development.

StoryBoards

Final Piece.

When I gave the flick book to someone else this is how they viewed it.. the quality of this video is not brilliant, i will look at hiring one out for a day so i can do a bit of really good video work to present my piece.

More Colour Illustrations.

I decided i might as well try and add colour and character to the illustrations, to see what they look like and also encase i change my mind and decide to use more detail. I think these look quite good, but it goes against my concept now.

The more detailed illustrations.

My book is now through the eyes of the paparazzi. The events you see in the flick book are superficial ones, and this is represented through very simple line drawings, as the book goes on, towards the very end when it comes to this scene i am having colour come through. I like these illustrations, however, if i was to give some honest evaluation i would say the colouring could be better. I was using magic markers and layout paper, so the paper absorbed the pen past the point i wanted it to at times. I needed to use this paper though as i was trying to get an exact copy of the previous line drawings and it is ideal for tracing. I will consider adding colour with photoshop.

Test

A quick test, just to see if it flicks properly, and if you can see all of the image. It works, just need to use slightly thicker paper.

Camera template. Next scene.

My final piece will be hand drawn. I have just done some of these drawings and scanned them in to allow me the freedom to experiment. After looking over these drawings i need to Beckham them up a bit! So i shall do some more line drawings, taken directly from some David Beckham imagery. But first, i want to clarify my storyboard, with the drawings i have done so far..

Putting the images into different formats..

Putting the images into the flick book format.

After doing the measurements last night, i have now put the playing football scene into the layout. The images are always going to be this size, but the shape of the book can change. I will print these off and experiment with different shapes and sizes of books.

My Graphics.

Have now started on the content Graphics, these are are selection of the ones that i am going to use. I need to do a few more though, a few to represent shopping and re-take the shoot that follows him into his house.

Front Cover Development.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I thought it might be a good idea to consider using the whole camera. So I started to experiment with the front cover, i like these :)
However, unsure as to whether it is the right style of camera to represent Paparazzi. Consider using a bigger camera?

Measurments.

Getting to grips with the sizes of the images.. at the moment I am working on quite a small scale. I need to start experimenting tomorrow. Another idea came to me before, to do an illustration of a whole camera, making the flick book a little bigger, allowing for easier use. The images can still be contained within the lens.

Experimenting with how my flick book will work.

Another Flip Book example.

This looks really appealing. It would be nice to see if there was reasoning behind it though, I really like it, but can not help but think it looks a bit random.
But the main point of putting this one onto my blog, was to show that simplicity is effective. Also to note the shape, long and quite thin. Once I have done a few more tests i can get to terms of whether my circle shape flip book will work.

Human Flip Book :)

Pushing the boundaries of the term flip/flick book. I really like this, and it has given me a few more ideas. I think once I have created my flick book, I am going to record a basic video of me or someone flicking through it, and then add on top of it with some computerized imagery.
I think this will be helpful for my interview part of the story. I was originally going to have Beckham sitting down and words would appear, but it would be tricky to do this and still make it legible. I think it will look good if the words physically start to be appearing to come off the page, or appearing in a speech bubble, crafted with paper and place next to the flick book, 3D crafted words.. there a various option which i need to explore and experiment with.

Artist Research.

I saw this music video quite a while ago, and he came back to me when I was thinking about how I could put across David Beckham. It showed me how effective silhouettes can be, and how they can be used to your advantage. Such as when you really want to use photography but can not exactly photography David Beckham..
